San Francisco Day 3 (last day)!
Everything great must come to an end. Actually I don't really believe that, but I didn't really know how to start this off, but that seemed like a cute way to do it? Yeah we will go with that. SO! The last day being in San Francisco was very eventful but really chill and laid back at the same time. It was the first time we hadn't been with the entire family for Easter, but we were all together so I really didn't mind.
Since we woke up uber early all the other days it was only fitting that we wake up at the crack of dawn for the final day. The past days had ended up being a little warm, so we all went with a light sweater, warm pants, and a coat. We headed out to pier 39 and picked up our pre-reserved tickets for whale watching! To be honest when my dad first told us that we would be out whale watching for 6 hours on our last day, I was not very excited. But as we waited for everyone to show up I ended up getting hyped and looking forward to it. Once all 50 people arrived our tour guid, Heather, lead us to our adventure vessel, the Kitty Kat boat. Heather explained the rules, safety and what we all should expect. She told us that the whales we would be looking for are grey whales, since they are typically in the are for migration. We started our adventure, and within the first 30 minutes someone already threw up...and I saw the whole thing happen. It was weird but those things don't bother me so I was okay, but I just felt bad for the girl. Of course it is not like I have some super strong stomach, I had just downed 2 dramamine, strongly encourage them. Shortly after those lovely events we saw a pod of DOLPHINS!
It was really exciting, I have swam with them before, but it is really different when you see them in their element. We went out 27 miles from San Francisco and the view of the city was gorgeous, the fog made the city look mysterious and like it was in its own world.
Along the way out we past little islands that were really cool looking, they were very isolated and subdue, it was nice. I was getting a little bummed because we weren't seeing any whales and they had hoped we would. And not to mention that I could not get warm to save my life. I bundled myself up tight and followed the sun when it would go behind clouds.
We headed back, without sightings of any whales, we were almost back when someone yelled, "BLOWHOLE!" and we looked over the side of the boat and a whale was blowing water out! It was really funny because there was a kayaker right next to the whale and he was so startled. We circled a little closer, not to close to harm it, and it came out of the water more and ended up being A HUMPBACK WHALE! The captain and Heather freaked out because apparently there hadn't been sightings of a Humpback in the San Francisco bay area in 20 years. We made history :). They notified the coast guard and they notified all large boats not to enter the area until it was safely gone.
Round 2 pm we got back to pier 39 and ate at this really good seafood restaurant called,"The Fog". We had a nice view of the bay and i had a clam chowder with crab in a bread bowl. Let me tell you, fresh clam chowder is so much better than the ones back here in Texas.
After we finished our nice lunch we walk to Lombard street, which is the Curviest road in the U.S. It was pretty cool, but we were all a little too tired to really enjoy it properly.
As soon as we got back to the hotel we past out.
It was an amazing trip, I have always found a connection to San Francisco and I know I will go back again soon. I really do hope one day to be able to live there for a little because it is such a cool city. But now I am back home, and I love it here also.
